The CNLP of the Year award recognizes an individual’s extraordinary commitment to the green industry, his or her family and community, and the betterment of others through the Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional Program. The award is presented at the NYSNLA Court of Honor on opening day of the New York State Fair in August.

John GaylardoJohn Gaylardo, CNLP is 2019's CNLP of the Year. John became a CNLP in 2006. He currently serves as regional CNLP co-chair for the Long Island Nursery & Landscape Association (NYSNLA Region 1) and has been a member of the LINLA board for 10 years, three of them as vice president. He currently serves as co-chair of  LINLA's Education Committee for and chair of the Membership Committee.

John earned a degree in ornamental horticulture from SUNY Farmingdale and recently retired from Atlantic Nurseries in Dix Hills, where he served as nursery manager. 

"John has always been an advocate for raising the level of professionalism in the industry through education," wrote Region 1 CNLP Co-Chair and LINLA Immediate Past Preisdent Carol Isles, who nominated him for CNLP of the Year. "This extends from the formal education through his support of SUNY Farmingdale to the informal as illustrated by his commitment to LINLA education programs as well as the NYSNLA programs. During his career he has championed educational programs at every employer and encouraged and supported his staff in obtaining their CNLP certification."
